Amarillo, TX – Residents of the Texas Panhandle and Oklahoma should prepare for severe weather conditions Wednesday, as thunderstorms are expected to bring ping-pong ball-sized hail and wind gusts of up to 60 mph after 10 PM. The US National Weather Service in Amarillo has issued a warning for the region, emphasizing the potential for damaging hail and strong winds.

The forecast indicates two rounds of thunderstorms, with the first round expected to develop in the late afternoon, around 4 to 5 PM. This initial wave of storms is anticipated to primarily bring strong winds. However, the second round, which will enter the region after 10 PM, poses a more significant threat with the potential for large hailstones and high wind speeds.

Hailstones could reach up to 1.5 inches in diameter, roughly the size of a ping-pong ball. Wind gusts may peak at 60 mph, creating hazardous conditions, particularly for those caught outside or on the road. Although the chance of tornadoes is considered very low, residents are urged to take precautions and stay informed as the evening progresses.

This severe weather event highlights the need for preparedness, especially given the potential for property damage and personal injury. Residents in the affected areas should secure outdoor objects, stay indoors during the storm, and remain vigilant for updates from local authorities.
