Amarillo, Texas – Flood-prone areas across the Texas and Oklahoma panhandles could see dangerous conditions through Tuesday evening as multiple rounds of heavy rain increase the risk of flash flooding.

According to the National Weather Service in Amarillo, a Flood Watch remains in effect for 23 counties from Dallam to Collingsworth in Texas and Cimarron to Beaver in Oklahoma. The alert began early Monday and extends through 7 p.m. Tuesday, with repeated thunderstorms expected to dump several inches of rain over saturated ground.

Cities including Amarillo, Guymon, Dumas, and Canyon are under watch as creeks, rivers, and low-water crossings may rapidly overflow. Urban areas with poor drainage and rural roads near the Canadian River and Palo Duro Canyon are particularly vulnerable.

Drivers are urged to avoid flooded roadways and stay updated on local warnings. Residents in flood-prone neighborhoods should move valuables off the floor and prepare for possible evacuation notices.

This is the region’s third major rain event in two weeks, compounding concerns over already elevated stream levels. Emergency crews remain on alert as more storms are expected.

Flood Warnings may follow if conditions worsen. Stay tuned for official updates through Tuesday evening.
