Pueblo, Colo. – Snow is piling up across Colorado’s high mountain passes, making travel treacherous into early Tuesday. Up to 8 inches of accumulation is expected on routes like Wolf Creek Pass and Cumbres Pass, with slick conditions likely through the overnight hours.
According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 6 a.m. Tuesday for elevations above 10,000 feet in the Eastern Sawatch, La Garita, and Eastern San Juan Mountains. Some isolated areas above 12,000 feet may see even higher totals.
Travel along high-altitude corridors—including North Pass near Bonanza—is expected to remain hazardous, with blowing snow and reduced visibility. CDOT advises drivers to use extreme caution and avoid unnecessary trips over mountain passes tonight. Chains or snow tires may be required.
This late-season snow event could cause delays for commercial vehicles and backcountry travelers. Outdoor enthusiasts are urged to check avalanche conditions and pack emergency supplies.
The advisory is the latest in a series of spring snow events across Colorado’s southern ranges. Warnings remain in effect through early Tuesday, and additional advisories may follow if snowfall intensifies overnight.
