Amarillo, TX – Bitter cold and potential snow are on the way for the Texas Panhandle, with temperatures dipping into single digits by Monday morning and snow chances arriving by Tuesday. Residents should prepare for wind chills as low as -5°F and stay alert for slick roads later in the week.

According to the National Weather Service in Amarillo, wind chill values will drop to dangerous levels overnight, particularly between 10 p.m. Sunday and 8 a.m. Monday. Monday’s high is expected to reach 44°F with sunny skies, but the wind chill will make it feel much colder. Residents should dress in layers, cover exposed skin, and limit time outdoors.

The cold spell continues into Tuesday, bringing a chance of light snow during the afternoon and evening. The forecast predicts a high of 35°F with gusty winds, making road conditions potentially hazardous on major routes such as I-40 and Highway 287. Drivers should exercise caution and plan for delays if traveling during the snow window.

Looking ahead, temperatures will remain cold through midweek, with highs near 40°F Wednesday and Thursday. Overnight lows are expected to hover around 20°F. Another slight chance of snow is forecast Thursday night as a secondary cold front approaches the region.

Residents are encouraged to monitor updates from local weather officials and stay prepared for winter weather impacts throughout the week. For emergencies, keep a winter kit in your car, including blankets, water, and a flashlight.
