San Antonio, TX – A prolonged heatwave continues to grip South-Central Texas, with San Antonio experiencing temperatures well into the triple digits. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Heat Advisory effective from 1 PM to 7 PM today, warning of heat index values between 108 and 110 degrees.
According to the NWS Austin/San Antonio office, temperatures are expected to reach highs of 100 degrees today, with isolated thunderstorms possible in the afternoon and evening. The heatwave will persist throughout the week, with temperatures forecasted to remain above 97 degrees. Sunday and Monday will see highs of 97 degrees, while Tuesday’s high will be around 98 degrees. Wednesday and Thursday will again bring sweltering conditions with temperatures peaking at 100 degrees.
Nighttime temperatures will offer little relief, with lows ranging from 76 to 78 degrees. Residents are advised to stay hydrated, avoid strenuous outdoor activities during peak heat hours, and check on vulnerable populations such as the elderly and children.
The NWS emphasizes the importance of heat safety during these extreme conditions. Measures include staying in air-conditioned environments, wearing lightweight and light-colored clothing, and never leaving children or pets unattended in vehicles. The advisory also highlights the potential for heat-related illnesses and encourages people to recognize symptoms such as dizziness, nausea, and excessive sweating.
