Fort Wayne, IN – A serious multi-vehicle crash Tuesday evening left multiple people injured and forced a major road closure in Fort Wayne.

According to the Fort Wayne Police Department, officers responded around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 5, to the intersection of West Washington Center Road and Lima Road in Allen County, located in northeast Indiana. Dispatchers received multiple 911 calls reporting a significant collision involving several vehicles.

When crews arrived, they found four vehicles involved in the crash, with two մարդկանց trapped inside. The Fort Wayne Fire Department worked to extricate the আহত occupants, successfully freeing both individuals. Medics treated four patients at the scene, with two transported to local hospitals suffering from serious to life-threatening injuries.

Preliminary information indicates an SUV traveling southbound on Lima Road experienced a medical emergency. Authorities say the vehicle crossed the median into northbound lanes, left the roadway at high speed, became airborne, and struck a stopped car at a red light. The impact triggered a chain-reaction crash involving two additional vehicles. Two الأشخاص were pinned inside their vehicles as a result.

Due to the severity of the crash, the FWPD Fatal Accident Crash Team has taken over the investigation, with assistance from the department’s Air Support Unit.

West Washington Center Road remains closed at the intersection, with the shutdown expected to last until approximately 9:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Officials say the investigation is ongoing, and additional updates will be released as they become available.
