Lubbock, Texas – Thunderstorms will begin building over Lubbock Sunday afternoon, bringing a growing risk of lightning, wind, and possible power outages into the workweek.

According to the National Weather Service, a 20% chance of showers and thunderstorms begins after 1 p.m. Sunday, rising to 50% overnight into early Monday morning, with heavier activity expected again Monday night and Tuesday. Rain chances persist daily through Wednesday, June 12, which could impact local travel and outdoor plans. US-62 and nearby roads could see slick conditions, especially late Monday.

Sunday will start off sunny with a high near 96°F and southeast winds up to 10 mph. Storms are expected to roll in by late afternoon, increasing in coverage after sundown. By Monday night, a 60% chance of thunderstorms returns, with possible localized flooding and wind gusts near 30 mph.

Lubbock residents should secure outdoor items, avoid unnecessary travel during storm hours, and keep electronics charged in case of power interruptions. Rain remains in the forecast Tuesday through Thursday, with highs ranging from the low 80s to upper 80s.
