Lufkin, TX – A flood warning remains in effect for the Angelina River near Lufkin, impacting Angelina, Cherokee, and Nacogdoches counties, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Shreveport. Minor flooding is occurring and is expected to persist for several days.

According to NWS, as of 9:00 p.m. Thursday, the river stage measured 164.2 feet, surpassing the flood stage of 161.0 feet. Water levels are expected to gradually recede, falling to 163.1 feet by Tuesday evening. However, flooding along the gravel access roadways will continue, making travel hazardous.

Officials urge residents to avoid flooded areas and exercise caution near riverbanks. Motorists should not attempt to drive through flooded roads, as most flood-related deaths occur in vehicles. Boaters and four-wheel operators should also be cautious, as river currents may be swift and turbulent.

The NWS will issue the next update at 9:45 p.m. Friday. For more details, visit NOAA’s water resources page.
