Memphis, Tennessee – Major flooding along the Mississippi River is prompting urgent warnings this week as businesses and fuel infrastructure face rising water.

According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, a Flood Warning remains in effect until 8:12 a.m. Saturday, with minor to moderate flooding expected along the Mississippi River, especially near Memphis and West Memphis. As of Sunday evening, the river stage reached 36.8 feet and crested at 37.2 feet—well above the 34.0-foot flood stage. Water is now covering a grain terminal and several businesses just south of West Memphis, while a nearby fuel facility south of the river gauge is currently flooded.

Drivers along I-55 and US-61 near the Mississippi River should avoid low-lying areas, especially south of the Memphis bridge, where water may overtop roadways. Walking near riverbanks is also discouraged due to unstable conditions. Stay updated via weather.gov/memphis.

Looking ahead to Tuesday, skies clear slightly with a high near 81°F and only a slight chance of showers. However, thunderstorms return late Wednesday and Thursday’s rain chances jump to 80%, making conditions tricky for outdoor plans.
