Huntsville, AL – A strong storm system is set to impact northern Alabama and the Tennessee Valley this weekend, bringing heavy rainfall, damaging winds, and the potential for tornadoes.

According to the National Weather Service Huntsville, multiple rounds of storms are expected from late Friday night through Saturday night. Forecasters warn of severe thunderstorms, with the greatest risk for dangerous weather occurring Saturday evening into the night.

Rainfall totals between 2 to 4 inches are anticipated, with some areas receiving even higher amounts. Flash flooding is a major concern, as excessive rainfall could lead to rising water levels in rivers, creeks, and streams. Cities including Huntsville, Florence, Russellville, and Fort Payne are expected to see significant rainfall and potential flood conditions.

In addition to heavy rain, severe storms may bring damaging wind gusts exceeding 60 mph, large hail, and isolated tornadoes. A Level 1 risk for severe weather is in effect Thursday, mainly for areas south of the Tennessee River, with stronger storms expected Friday and Saturday.

Residents are urged to stay informed and have multiple ways to receive emergency alerts, especially overnight. Safety recommendations include charging devices, preparing an emergency plan, and avoiding flooded roadways.
