Huntsville, Alabama – Thunderstorms are expected to return across the Tennessee Valley this week, with Huntsville and surrounding areas facing a 70% chance of storms by Wednesday and continued rain through Thursday.
According to the National Weather Service in Huntsville, a stretch of dry weather will end Tuesday evening as a more unsettled pattern develops. Scattered thunderstorms are possible as early as Tuesday afternoon (60% chance), becoming more widespread by Wednesday and persisting through at least Thursday with a 60% chance of additional storms.
Cities across northern Alabama, including Decatur, Athens, and Scottsboro, should prepare for periods of heavy rainfall, lightning, and possible travel disruptions, particularly during evening commutes. Areas north of the Tennessee River could see isolated storms sooner, starting late Sunday with a 20% chance.
While Monday offers a brief window of calmer weather with highs in the upper 60s to near 70°F, residents are urged to stay weather-aware midweek. Roads may become slick, and localized flooding can’t be ruled out in low-lying or poorly drained areas.
The National Weather Service advises securing outdoor items, checking for updates, and avoiding travel during severe weather. More alerts may be issued as the storm system approaches.
