Knoxville, TN – Two-year-old Elton Bailey, the subject of a statewide AMBER Alert, was found safe after an intensive search Sunday evening.
Police received reports around 5:25 p.m. that a gold 2002 Ford Explorer, with Elton inside, had been taken from a home on Old State Road. The boy’s grandfather left the vehicle running while briefly stepping inside, returning to find the SUV gone.
According to the Knoxville Police Department, multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Tennessee Highway Patrol and FBI, coordinated search efforts. UAV teams and ground crews scoured nearby areas for over three hours without confirmed sightings.
The SUV was later discovered by Knox County Sheriff’s Office personnel in a muddy construction zone near Pelham Park Road. Elton was found unharmed and still inside the running vehicle. Authorities are investigating whether the vehicle rolled into the area or was intentionally abandoned.
Police thanked the public for responding to the AMBER Alert and credited coordinated efforts for the quick resolution.
The investigation remains ongoing, with no suspects yet identified.
