Memphis, TN – Scattered severe storms are expected to develop across West Tennessee tonight, with the highest threat window between 8 p.m. and 2 a.m. Thursday. Wind gusts up to 60 mph and isolated tornadoes could impact overnight travel and power stability.
According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, a Level 1 “Marginal Risk” covers much of the region, including Memphis, Clarksdale, Jonesboro, and Oxford. The storms will move from southwest to northeast, bringing brief but potentially dangerous bursts of wind, small hail, and heavy rainfall.
Communities from Cleveland to Paragould and up toward Union City should prepare for sudden downpours and localized flooding, particularly in low-lying or poorly drained areas. The NWS notes the potential for isolated tornado development cannot be ruled out overnight, especially in counties west of the Mississippi River.
Residents are advised to secure loose outdoor items, charge devices, and enable emergency alerts on mobile phones. If a tornado warning is issued, move to a basement or interior room without windows.
Storm activity is expected to weaken after 2 a.m., but stronger storms could redevelop Thursday afternoon. Stay alert for updates and new warnings as conditions evolve.
