Nashville, Tennessee – Strong thunderstorms could sweep through Middle Tennessee Thursday afternoon, bringing damaging wind gusts and pockets of hail from 2 p.m. to 11 p.m., with the highest risk centered north of I-40.

According to the National Weather Service in Nashville, a “Slight Risk” (Level 2 of 5) for severe weather covers much of the state Thursday, including Nashville, Clarksville, and Columbia. While tornado potential remains very low, forecasters warn of scattered storms capable of producing 40–60 mph winds and hail up to one inch in diameter. The main window for severe activity stretches from mid-afternoon into the evening.

Communities from Franklin to Cookeville could see multiple rounds of thunderstorms, some of which may develop quickly with little warning. Outdoor events may be disrupted, and brief power outages are possible due to downed limbs or minor wind damage. Travel along I-24 and I-65 could become hazardous during the evening commute.

Residents are urged to secure loose outdoor items, charge phones and devices, and monitor local alerts. With highs in the low to mid-80s and warm, unstable air in place, conditions are favorable for isolated intense storms.

Storm threats taper off late Thursday, but showers and thunder will linger into Friday. More updates are expected throughout the day.
