Morristown, TN – Tennessee is gearing up for severe weather today as forecasts predict strong wind gusts and heavy rainfall, heightening the risk of wind damage, downed trees, and flash flooding. The US National Weather Service in Morristown has issued a Flood Watch for the region due to recent rainfall and additional heavy rain anticipated today.

According to the National Weather Service, thunderstorms will move into Tennessee from the northwest this afternoon and evening. These storms are expected to bring wind gusts exceeding 60 mph and significant rainfall, which could lead to flash flooding in already saturated areas. The timing of the storms is uncertain, but they are expected to develop throughout the day.

In addition to the severe weather threat, high temperatures and humidity levels will persist across Tennessee. Heat index values are forecasted to reach between 105°F and 109°F, particularly in areas west of I-65, including Clarksville, Nashville, and Waverly. The National Weather Service advises residents to stay hydrated, avoid strenuous outdoor activities, and check on vulnerable populations, such as the elderly, who are more susceptible to heat-related illnesses.

The forecast for the coming days includes partly cloudy skies with temperatures ranging from the mid-80s to the low 90s. By Thursday, temperatures are expected to rise, reaching up to 92°F, with continued warm conditions into the weekend. Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant, stay informed about the latest weather updates, and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety during this period of severe weather.
