Huntsville, Alabama – Strong to severe thunderstorms could develop across north Alabama and southern middle Tennessee tonight, mainly between 6 p.m. and midnight, with the highest risk in northwest Alabama.

According to the National Weather Service in Huntsville, storms are expected ahead of a cold front moving through the region. While confidence is low, damaging winds, hail, and even a brief tornado cannot be ruled out. Residents should stay alert through early Friday morning as the situation remains fluid.

The potential weather threats cover cities including Florence, Decatur, Athens, and extending north toward Pulaski, Tennessee. Travel may be affected, especially if winds down trees or power lines. Local emergency managers advise having multiple ways to receive warnings — especially overnight — and to head indoors at the first sign of thunder or lightning.

Though this system is expected to weaken as it moves east, any isolated severe cells could still bring hazards. Stay weather-aware, and monitor updates from the National Weather Service for changes in timing or intensity.

Another update is expected late this evening as conditions evolve. Storm alerts remain possible into early Friday.
