Reno, Nev. – A critical fire weather pattern will grip Western Nevada and the Eastern Sierra from Saturday morning through Sunday evening, with strong winds and low humidity combining to elevate wildfire danger across the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Reno, a Fire Weather Watch is in effect for much of the area due to wind gusts of 30 to 40 mph and the potential for isolated thunderstorms. The risk level is rated 3 out of 5, signaling a moderate but dangerous threat, especially in wildfire-prone areas.

Cities including Reno, Carson City, and Minden could experience rapid fire spread conditions, particularly in grassy or brush-covered terrain. The Sierra crest may also see gusts up to 50 mph. Humidity levels are expected to plunge to 10–15%, with limited overnight recovery.

Residents are urged to avoid any fire-prone activities such as dragging trailer chains, outdoor target shooting, and driving over dry vegetation. Emergency officials advise keeping firefighting tools accessible and reviewing evacuation routes in high-risk zones.

The Fire Weather Watch remains in effect through Sunday evening. Additional alerts may follow if conditions worsen or lightning becomes more widespread.
