Tampa, FL – Tampa residents should prepare for sweltering temperatures this week as a heat wave grips the region. Forecasts predict daily highs in the 90s, with heat indices expected to soar into the triple digits. Sunday will see a high of 92 degrees, with a 40% chance of afternoon thunderstorms.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the oppressive heat will persist through the week, with Monday and Tuesday expected to reach highs of 93 and 94 degrees, respectively. The heat index, a measure of how hot it feels when humidity is factored in, could exceed 100 degrees each day.

NWS urges residents to take precautions, including staying hydrated, wearing loose-fitting, light-colored clothing, and applying sunscreen regularly. Those who must work or exercise outdoors are advised to take frequent breaks in the shade or indoors to avoid heat-related illnesses.

The heat wave is expected to continue until Friday, when a slight drop in temperatures and a 40% chance of rain may offer some relief. However, high temperatures in the low 90s are still expected to persist into the weekend.
