Tallahassee, Fla. – Hotter and drier weather is settling into the Florida Panhandle and Big Bend, with afternoon temperatures climbing into the middle and upper 90s through Saturday while only isolated showers offer little relief. Heat index values will continue to reach the low 100s, increasing the risk of heat-related illnesses across the region.
According to the National Weather Service in Tallahassee, rain chances will remain limited through Saturday, with only isolated showers or thunderstorms developing along the afternoon sea breeze today and Friday. Most communities will stay dry as a strengthening ridge of high pressure allows temperatures to steadily climb.
Highs are expected to reach 95 degrees in Tallahassee, 97 degrees in Albany, 96 degrees in Dothan, 96 degrees in Valdosta, 96 degrees in Bainbridge, 95 degrees in Perry, and 94 degrees in Panama City, while Apalachicola remains cooler in the upper 80s because of the Gulf breeze. Overnight lows will generally remain in the low to mid-70s, providing only limited overnight cooling.
The combination of prolonged sunshine and increasing heat will create uncomfortable conditions during the afternoon. Residents are encouraged to stay hydrated, spend time in air-conditioned or shaded locations when possible and take frequent breaks if working outdoors. Wearing lightweight clothing and avoiding strenuous activity during peak heating hours can help reduce the risk of heat illness.
The National Weather Service says temperatures are expected to climb even higher early next week, with the hot pattern continuing across the region. Additional heat-related advisories could become necessary if heat index values increase further.
