According to Delaware State Police, the incident occurred on Thursday, December 18, 2025, at approximately 3:20 p.m., when a trooper was patrolling near Cypress Swamp. Police say the trooper observed a vehicle fail to maintain its lane and nearly strike oncoming traffic, prompting a traffic stop.

The driver was identified as 24-year-old Marcus Massey Jr. of Bridgeville, Delaware. During the stop, the trooper allegedly observed signs of impairment and conducted Standard Field Sobriety Tests, which Massey Jr. reportedly failed.

Police say a search during the investigation revealed approximately 4.29 grams of heroin allegedly concealed on Massey Jr.’s person. Authorities also reported that a computer check showed Massey Jr. had three prior DUI convictions, elevating the current charge to a felony level.

Massey Jr. was taken into custody without incident and transported to Delaware State Police Troop 4, where he was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 2. He was subsequently committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on an $11,503 secured bond.
