Hastings, NE – A powerful winter storm continues to impact Nebraska, bringing heavy snowfall, strong winds, and life-threatening travel conditions through Sunday. Blizzard warnings remain in effect across much of the area, with snow accumulations reaching up to 14 inches in some spots.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the heaviest snowfall and strongest gusts are expected overnight and into Sunday afternoon. Winds could reach 35 mph, reducing visibility to less than 1/4 mile and creating whiteout conditions. Residents are urged to avoid travel unless absolutely necessary. If you must drive, ensure your vehicle is equipped with a winter survival kit, including food, water, and an emergency light source.
The storm will gradually subside by Sunday evening, but bitterly cold temperatures are expected to follow. Monday morning wind chills could drop as low as -20 degrees, posing additional risks for outdoor exposure.
