Stanton Tornado Causes Damage in Neighborhoods, Kirkwood Plaza Shopping Center Hit

Stanton, DE – An EF-1 tornado swept through several neighborhoods in Stanton, Delaware, on Thursday evening, causing notable damage before lifting back into the sky. The tornado, which hit around 7:11 PM, tore a path of destruction across residential areas and inflicted damage near the Kirkwood Plaza Shopping Center.

According to the National Weather Service’s Philadelphia/Mt. Holly office, the tornado packed winds of up to 95 mph as it traveled 1.13 miles with a maximum width of 150 yards. The storm left a trail of debris, particularly affecting homes and businesses in its path. Kirkwood Plaza Shopping Center, located near the intersection of Route 7 and Kirkwood Highway, suffered damage, with debris scattered around the area.

Despite the tornado’s strength and the damage it caused, there were no reports of injuries or fatalities. Local authorities, along with trained spotters, quickly responded to the scene, ensuring the safety of residents and assessing the damage. The tornado is part of a series of severe weather events that impacted the region, including flash floods and strong wind gusts.
