However, the best potential for severe storms is anticipated later in the afternoon and evening. Main threats include large hail, damaging wind gusts, and brief heavy downpours.
In addition to the storms, a heat advisory has been issued for portions of southern Missouri, including Springfield. The advisory is in effect from 12 PM to 9 PM today. Temperatures are expected to reach the mid-90s, with heat indices ranging from 100 to 105 degrees. The excessive heat, combined with high humidity, can be particularly dangerous for vulnerable populations.
