Springfield, MO – Residents in Springfield and surrounding areas should prepare for a weekend of severe weather conditions, as the National Weather Service has issued multiple advisories for southern Missouri.

According to the National Weather Service in Springfield, there will be two rounds of rain today. The first round, occurring in the morning, is not expected to be severe. However, the best potential for severe storms is anticipated later in the afternoon and evening. Main threats include large hail, damaging wind gusts, and brief heavy downpours.

In addition to the storms, a heat advisory has been issued for portions of southern Missouri, including Springfield. The advisory is in effect from 12 PM to 9 PM today. Temperatures are expected to reach the mid-90s, with heat indices ranging from 100 to 105 degrees. The excessive heat, combined with high humidity, can be particularly dangerous for vulnerable populations. Looking ahead to the weekend, Springfield will see more heat with temperatures peaking at 93°F on Friday and Saturday. While Sunday promises a slight reprieve with a high of 86°F, the heat will persist into early next week. The chance of rain decreases significantly after today, leading to drier conditions.
