Newport, NC – North Carolina beachgoers are in for a mix of beautiful weather and hazardous surf conditions this weekend. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Newport/Morehead City has issued a rip current advisory as swells from Ernesto are expected to impact the coast starting Friday.

On Thursday, the weather is expected to be mostly clear with a high of 85°F, providing a pleasant start to the weekend. However, the NWS warns that despite the low rip current risk today, conditions will worsen as large swells arrive Friday. With highs around 86°F, Friday’s rip current risk will increase to moderate or even high levels, particularly along the Outer Banks and other exposed beaches.

Saturday will continue the sunny trend, with temperatures reaching 85°F. Rip current risks remain elevated, so caution is advised for anyone planning to enter the water. Sunday’s forecast brings partly cloudy skies and warmer temperatures, peaking at 87°F. There is also a slight chance of showers on Monday as the warm weather persists.

The NWS advises all beachgoers to heed local warnings and exercise extreme caution, particularly on Friday, when the rip current threat will be most significant.
