Springfield, MO – Missouri is on high alert as up to 7 inches of rain is expected to drench parts of the state, raising serious concerns about flash flooding.

The National Weather Service in Springfield has issued a warning that a narrow but intense corridor of heavy rainfall is set to develop tonight and continue through Wednesday morning. Areas northeast of Springfield are predicted to bear the brunt of the storm, with localized rainfall amounts possibly reaching 7 inches.

According to the NWS, the deluge could trigger flash flooding, particularly in low-lying areas and regions prone to water accumulation. Residents are urged to monitor the forecast closely and be prepared for rapidly rising waters.

Additionally, thunderstorms throughout today will bring lightning and brief but heavy rainfall across southwest Missouri, further saturating the ground ahead of the main rain event. Some storms may also produce wind gusts up to 50 mph.

As the rain moves through, residents should remain cautious and avoid flood-prone areas. Turn around, don’t drown, and ensure you have multiple ways to receive weather warnings.
