Springfield, Ill. – Central Illinois residents are enduring another stretch of stifling heat, with temperatures climbing into the mid-90s and humidity keeping conditions muggy through Monday. The National Weather Service warns that outdoor activity could become dangerous without precautions as heat builds across the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Lincoln, Saturday evening will stay sticky with only a 15% chance of storms, though overnight temperatures will settle into the 80s. Sunday brings little relief, with highs again in the mid-90s, lows in the mid-70s, and about a 20% chance for an isolated thunderstorm. By Monday, temperatures remain locked in the mid-90s, with humidity making it feel even hotter and a 10% chance of storms lingering into the evening.

Residents in Springfield, Decatur, and surrounding towns are urged to stay hydrated, wear light clothing, and limit time outdoors. Energy demand is expected to climb as households rely heavily on air conditioning. Outdoor workers are advised to take frequent breaks in shaded or cooled areas.
