Clark County, WA – A Skamania County Sheriff’s Office deputy shot and killed an aggressive dog at a residence in neighboring Clark County on Tuesday, May 6, after a less-lethal attempt failed, officials said.

According to the Skamania County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred shortly after the deputy returned home from his shift. The deputy, identified as Deputy Kioroglo, reported seeing a dog circling his marked patrol vehicle. When he exited, the dog allegedly charged toward him.

Authorities said the deputy initially deployed his department-issued Taser in an effort to stop the animal. However, the Taser was ineffective, and the dog continued to pose what was described as an imminent threat of serious injury. The deputy then discharged his firearm, striking the dog.

The Clark County Sheriff’s Office responded and is leading the investigation, as the shooting occurred within its jurisdiction. Officials confirmed no people were injured during the incident.

Investigators also noted they are aware of multiple prior complaints involving the same dog, including a previous bite incident that had been reviewed by Clark County Animal Control.

No additional details about the dog’s owner or potential citations have been released. Authorities said further information will be provided as the investigation continues.

This incident comes amid ongoing discussions in Southwest Washington about animal control enforcement and the use of force in encounters involving aggressive animals.
