Abingdon, VA – A Cold Weather Advisory remains in effect for southwest Virginia and western North Carolina from 10 p.m. Thursday to 10 a.m. Friday, with wind chills expected to drop as low as -5°F in higher elevations.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Morristown, affected areas include Wise, Bristol, Murphy, and Asheville. Officials warn that frostbite can occur within 30 minutes on exposed skin.
Residents are urged to wear warm clothing, cover all exposed skin, and ensure outdoor pets and livestock have warm shelter. Travelers should also watch for icy conditions on mountain roads.
Although temperatures will rise slightly Friday afternoon, another cold front is expected early next week.
