Grand Junction, CO – A Red Flag Warning for critical fire conditions in southwest Colorado will expire at 8 p.m. MDT tonight, but dangerous fire weather will continue to threaten the region through the weekend. Gusty winds, dry fuels, and low humidity are expected to persist in areas below 7,000 feet, particularly in Fire Weather Zones 207 and 292, which includes the Lower Southwest Colorado and North Fork areas.

According to the National Weather Service, the Red Flag Warning for these areas remains in effect until 8 p.m. tonight, as winds subside and humidity levels recover with the sunset. However, similar conditions will return Saturday from noon to 8 p.m. MDT, and a Fire Weather Watch is in effect from Sunday afternoon through the evening.

Gusts as strong as 45 mph combined with relative humidity between 7 to 12 percent will create favorable conditions for rapid fire growth. The region’s dry conditions and high winds are expected to keep fire risk elevated, making it crucial for residents to exercise extreme caution with outdoor activities, especially burning.

Authorities warn that fires will catch and spread quickly, posing a significant threat to safety. Residents are advised to refrain from outdoor burning and stay alert for further updates and possible Red Flag Warnings. The Fire Weather Watch for Sunday indicates the potential for renewed fire activity.
