Southern Storm Brings Up to 8 Inches of Snow Across Alabama, Georgia, and Florida

Birmingham, AL – A rare winter storm swept across Alabama, Georgia, and Florida, delivering snowfall totals of up to 8.8 inches in some areas, according to data collected by Iowa State University. The unusual weather caused widespread disruptions in all three states.

In Alabama, Coffee County recorded the highest accumulation at 8.8 inches in Damascus. Geneva County saw 8 inches in Highfalls, while Houston County also reported 8 inches in Pansey. Other areas, including Dale and Henry counties, experienced totals ranging from 4 to 6 inches.

In Georgia, Mitchell County led the state with 8 inches in Camilla, followed by 7.5 inches in Dougherty County near Putney. Grady and Early counties observed between 7 and 7.3 inches, with other areas reporting widespread snowfall of 4 to 7 inches.

Florida’s Panhandle saw rare accumulations, with Holmes County recording 8 inches in Bonifay. Jackson County reported up to 7 inches in Graceville, while Calhoun and Bay counties saw totals ranging from 5 to 6 inches.

The snowfall, uncommon for the region, disrupted travel and school schedules while creating scenic winter landscapes. Authorities in all three states advised caution on icy roads as residents worked to recover from the storm’s effects.
