Biloxi, MS — Southern Mississippi is under a tornado watch until 6 a.m. Thursday as Tropical Storm Francine moves inland, bringing the potential for severe weather. The National Weather Service issued the watch due to the storm’s outer bands, which may produce tornadoes and severe thunderstorms overnight.
The watch covers a 55-mile-wide zone stretching from northwest of Slidell, Louisiana, to southeast of Crestview, Florida. According to the NWS, small supercells within Francine’s bands could generate isolated tornadoes across the region into the early morning hours.
Residents in Southern Mississippi are advised to stay alert and be ready to seek shelter if necessary. A tornado watch means conditions are favorable for tornadoes, and people should monitor weather updates closely. Aviation may also be affected, with gusts of up to 50 knots expected in the region.
