Paducah, KY – Residents in southern Illinois should prepare for scattered showers and a few storms moving southeast across the region late this morning. The National Weather Service in Paducah has highlighted the Wabash Valley of southern Illinois as a key area where pop-up showers and storms could develop throughout the afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the storms are currently located in a green-shaded area on the radar, which stretches across parts of southern Illinois, southwestern Indiana, and western Kentucky. The main hazards expected include brief heavy rainfall and occasional lightning, which could lead to localized flooding and potentially hazardous driving conditions.

The NWS advises residents to stay updated on the weather throughout the day and to be prepared for sudden changes in conditions. Areas particularly at risk include Mount Vernon, Carmi, and surrounding communities in the Wabash Valley.
