Pueblo, CO – A Red Flag Warning remains in effect across southern Colorado through 8 p.m. Sunday as high winds and critically low humidity levels create extreme wildfire conditions.
According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, wind speeds from the west will range from 20 to 30 mph, with gusts reaching up to 45 mph. Relative humidity is expected to dip as low as 5% to 10% in many areas, with some zones—such as Alamosa, Walsenburg, and Trinidad—forecast to fall into the single digits.
The warning spans a large region from Salida to La Junta, including Pueblo, Canon City, and Colorado Springs. Officials say that the combination of dry fuels, strong winds, and low humidity will allow fires to ignite easily and spread rapidly.
Residents are urged to avoid any activities that could spark a fire, including outdoor grilling, welding, or using power equipment. Travel may also be impacted by smoke if wildfires develop, particularly in rural or mountainous areas.
Drivers should keep emergency kits in their vehicles and stay updated via local alerts. If fire or smoke approaches, evacuation orders should be followed immediately.
Officials stress: one careless spark could lead to a fast-moving wildfire under these conditions.
