Detroit, Michigan – A quiet and warm Monday will give way to developing storms after 8 p.m., with showers and thunderstorms expected to impact late-night travel across the Detroit metro and major routes including I-75, I-94, and I-96.
According to the National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac, most of the day will remain dry with increasing clouds, but conditions will shift quickly this evening as a system moves into southeast Michigan. Showers and storms are expected to develop after 8 p.m. and continue into early Tuesday morning, bringing periods of reduced visibility and slick road conditions.
Detroit, Ann Arbor, Warren, and Pontiac will see the highest likelihood of overnight rainfall, with scattered thunderstorms capable of brief downpours. While widespread severe weather is not the primary concern, isolated stronger storms could still produce gusty winds and localized impacts during heavier cells.
Drivers traveling late tonight should be prepared for wet pavement and sudden changes in visibility, especially along high-speed corridors like I-94 and I-696. Ponding water may develop in low-lying or poorly drained areas by early Tuesday.
Temperatures will trend cooler after the system passes, with highs falling from the upper 60s and low 70s Monday into the low 60s Tuesday, then dropping further into the 50s by midweek. Overnight lows will dip into the 40s and even upper 30s by Thursday and Friday.
Residents should plan for changing conditions late tonight and allow extra travel time. Additional updates are expected if storm intensity increases or timing shifts.
