Gray, ME – Residents across parts of Maine and New Hampshire should prepare for near-freezing overnight temperatures as Frost Advisories take effect late Thursday night, May 21, into Friday morning, May 22.
According to the National Weather Service offices in Gray and Caribou, temperatures are expected to fall as low as 32 degrees overnight, creating conditions favorable for widespread frost formation across interior sections of both states.
The advisory issued by the National Weather Service in Gray runs from 11 p.m. Thursday, May 21, through 8 a.m. EDT Friday, May 22. Areas impacted include southern Oxford and Franklin counties in Maine, Interior Cumberland Highlands, Central Somerset County, and portions of western and central New Hampshire, including Carroll, Grafton, Sullivan, and Cheshire counties.
Cities included in the advisory range from Fryeburg and Bethel, Maine, to North Conway, Plymouth, Claremont, and Keene, New Hampshire.
Meanwhile, the National Weather Service in Caribou issued a separate Frost Advisory from midnight through 7 a.m. Friday for portions of northern and eastern Maine, including Aroostook County, Northern Penobscot County, and Central Piscataquis County. Communities impacted include Presque Isle, Caribou, Houlton, Millinocket, Greenville, and Van Buren.
Forecasters warned that sensitive outdoor plants and vegetation may be damaged or killed if left uncovered overnight. Residents are encouraged to bring plants indoors or cover them before temperatures drop late tonight.
Conditions are expected to improve after sunrise Friday as temperatures gradually warm across the region.
