Charleston, SC – Residents in portions of southeast Georgia and southeast South Carolina are under a Cold Weather Advisory until 9 a.m. Friday, with inland Berkeley County also facing a Lake Wind Advisory for Lake Moultrie.

The National Weather Service warns of wind chill values as low as 17 to 18 degrees, creating a heightened risk for hypothermia with prolonged outdoor exposure. Affected areas include Charleston, Summerville, North Charleston, Statesboro, and Goose Creek. On Lake Moultrie, north winds of 20 to 25 knots with gusts up to 30 knots are generating waves up to 2 feet, posing hazards for small craft.

Residents are urged to dress in layers, including hats and gloves, and limit outdoor exposure during the advisory period. Boaters on Lake Moultrie should exercise caution, as rough conditions could overturn small vessels. Pets should be brought indoors to avoid harm from the cold temperatures.

The advisory highlights the need for preparation as the Southeast experiences unusually frigid weather conditions.
