Corpus Christi, Texas – Dangerous heat is once again the biggest concern across South Texas today, with afternoon temperatures climbing above 100 degrees inland and heat index values reaching 110 to 113 degrees. A Heat Advisory remains in effect from noon until 8 p.m. CDT for much of the inland Coastal Plains and Brush Country, where prolonged time outdoors could quickly lead to heat-related illness.
According to the National Weather Service in Corpus Christi, afternoon highs will range from 100 to 108 degrees across inland communities, including Laredo (108), Cotulla (106), Freer (106), Tilden (105), Alice (104), Beeville (103), and Victoria (104). Coastal locations will be slightly cooler, with highs around 95 to 96 degrees in Corpus Christi, Rockport and Port Lavaca, but humidity will keep conditions uncomfortable. Light winds under 15 mph will offer little relief.
The advisory covers communities including Corpus Christi, Alice, Beeville, Freer, Cotulla, Tilden, Laredo, Kingsville, Pleasanton, Victoria and surrounding inland counties. Forecasters classify today’s conditions as Moderate to Major HeatRisk, meaning the heat can affect anyone without proper hydration or cooling.
Relief remains limited through Thursday before weather conditions begin to change. A 25% chance of showers arrives Thursday, with rain chances increasing to 50% Friday as moisture associated with Tropical Storm Bertha spreads into South Texas. Even with scattered rain, highs will remain in the lower to middle 100s through the weekend.
Residents should drink plenty of water, wear lightweight clothing, limit strenuous outdoor activities during the afternoon and use air conditioning whenever possible, as fans alone may not provide enough cooling.
