Chicago’s Far South Side has seen a surge in burglaries this August, with over 20 reported cases. In these incidents, a group of masked individuals, dressed in dark clothing, targets businesses during early morning hours. They attach chains to the front doors of these establishments, then use stolen vehicles to rip the doors off, gaining entry.

Once inside, the burglars steal ATMs, cash registers, tobacco products, and other valuable merchandise. These crimes have occurred in several neighborhoods, including South Deering, Calumet Heights, and West Pullman.

Chicago police reports indicate that the same method was used at businesses on the 10600 block of South Torrence Avenue, the 1900 block of East 95th Street, and the 12200 block of South Halsted Street, among others.

Authorities have ramped up patrols in these areas, urging business owners to secure their properties and remain vigilant. If you see anything suspicious, report it immediately to the police. Community awareness and swift action are critical to preventing further incidents.
