South Dakota Weather: Heat Indices Soar, Storms Expected

Sioux Falls, SD – South Dakota is gearing up for a period of intense heat and potential severe storms over the coming days. Temperatures are expected to soar with heat indices reaching 95 degrees or higher in the afternoon, particularly from the James Valley west, where indices could range from 100 to 103 degrees.

According to the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls, isolated storms will be possible near Highway 14 into southwest Minnesota today, with a greater chance of storms arriving late Sunday night into Monday. Cooler weather is anticipated later in the week.

Today, highs will range from 90 to 100 degrees, with nighttime storms likely near Highway 14. Sunday will see slightly cooler temperatures, with highs between 85 and 98 degrees and the possibility of nighttime storms. By Monday, temperatures are expected to drop to a high of 75 to 92 degrees with scattered storms throughout the day.

The weather pattern shifts further on Tuesday, with highs between 76 and 83 degrees and the potential for nighttime storms. Wednesday will bring highs of 74 to 81 degrees and scattered storms.
