Dodge City, Kansas – Severe thunderstorms could rattle south central Kansas this afternoon, with the greatest threat window between 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tuesday. Areas including Wichita, Dodge City, and Pratt may see damaging winds, large hail, and heavy rainfall that could lead to localized flooding.
According to the National Weather Service in Dodge City, a Level 2 (Slight Risk) threat assessment is in effect for much of the region. The strongest storms are expected to form along a corridor stretching from Liberal and Medicine Lodge northeast toward Hutchinson and Newton. Primary threats include wind gusts exceeding 60 mph, quarter-sized hail, and frequent lightning.
Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, avoid unnecessary travel during peak storm hours, and monitor NOAA Weather Radio or trusted local outlets for warnings. Power outages and minor road flooding are possible, especially in low-lying areas or where storm drains clog.
This system could mark one of the more active early June storm days for the region, following a relatively quiet start to the month. More storm activity may develop later this week depending on upper-level patterns.
Severe weather alerts remain in effect until 7 p.m. Tuesday. Further updates are expected this evening.
