Greenville, South Carolina – Warm, humid air settling over the Carolinas Friday is priming the region for isolated storms that could turn severe by evening, especially near the Blue Ridge Mountains and western Upstate.

According to the National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg, scattered showers are expected throughout the day with a 50–60% chance of precipitation west of I-26. The highest risk for damaging winds and potentially severe storms arrives late Friday, especially in areas like Robbinsville, Brevard, and Asheville, where a complex of thunderstorms will push in from the west.

Residents in Greenville, Spartanburg, and surrounding counties should prepare for sudden downpours and gusty conditions late this afternoon into tonight. While the risk in the Piedmont remains marginal, areas closer to the mountains—including Pickens and Oconee Counties—may see stronger cells with wind gusts topping 50 mph.

Drivers should remain alert during the evening commute and avoid flooded roadways. Charge mobile devices and secure outdoor items, as strong wind gusts may cause minor power outages.

Storms are expected to taper off overnight, but more rain is possible over the weekend. Weather alerts remain in effect through early Saturday.
