Spartanburg, S.C. – Thunderstorms are making a return to the Upstate, with damaging winds possible Tuesday night and again heading into the weekend.
According to the National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg, a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms begins Tuesday afternoon across Spartanburg County, with the most active period expected after 7 p.m. Patchy fog could develop before 8 a.m. Tuesday, reducing visibility on area roads including stretches of I-26 and I-85.
While rainfall on Tuesday is expected to be light, residents should monitor weather alerts through Friday. Storm chances increase again Thursday night into Friday, with a 60% likelihood of widespread thunderstorms. Rainfall totals Friday could exceed half an inch, and strong gusts may accompany some cells, especially during the afternoon commute.
Daytime highs will hold steady in the mid to upper 80s through the week, with mostly sunny skies in between storm chances. Tuesday’s high will reach near 84°F, with Wednesday and Thursday both climbing to the upper 80s.
Drivers should avoid flooded roads, and residents are encouraged to charge devices and review emergency plans before Friday. Outdoor plans may need to shift indoors as showers could impact weekend events.
