Greenville, SC – South Carolina is bracing for a surge in heat and humidity following the departure of Tropical Storm Debby. As Debby moves north, drier conditions are expected to return today; however, this will also pave the way for soaring temperatures and a spike in humidity levels throughout the region.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Greenville-Spartanburg, residents should prepare for heat indices reaching well into the triple digits, particularly in the Piedmont region. Areas such as Greenville, Spartanburg, and Anderson may see heat indices ranging from 101°F to 105°F, with some locations in the southern Piedmont potentially hitting up to 106°F. These conditions are expected to persist into the weekend.

The heat and humidity are forecast to peak Friday afternoon, with scattered thunderstorms potentially providing brief relief. However, the NWS advises caution, as these storms could be isolated and may not significantly lower temperatures. Residents are urged to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged outdoor activities, and keep an eye on vulnerable populations, including the elderly and young children.

Looking ahead, the forecast indicates slightly cooler conditions starting Sunday, with temperatures dropping into the upper 80s and lower 90s. Still, humidity will remain a factor, keeping the heat index high across much of South Carolina.
