South Bend, IN – Police are searching for a man wanted in connection with multiple vehicle break-ins and thefts downtown.

Investigators have identified Vernard Hamilton, 51, as the suspect in a string of incidents last November and December. South Bend Police responded to multiple reports of vandalism and theft in downtown parking areas during this time.

On Tuesday, prosecutors charged Hamilton in two cases, including theft and criminal mischief. Authorities say he is not in custody, and warrants remain active for his arrest.

Hamilton is described as 6’2” and 165 pounds and believed to still be in the South Bend area. However, police say he has no permanent address.

The South Bend Police Department encourages anyone with information to call the Detective Bureau at 574-235-9263. Tips can also be submitted anonymously through Michiana Crime Stoppers at 574-288-STOP.

Authorities remind the public that Hamilton is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
