South Bend Man Charged in Downtown Shooting Near Federal Bankruptcy Court

South Bend, IN – A South Bend man faces multiple felony charges in connection with a downtown shooting near the Federal Bankruptcy Court. Juan Moreno, 29, was arrested Wednesday afternoon after allegedly shooting his girlfriend, leaving her seriously injured.

According to the South Bend Police Department, the arrest was made through a collaboration between the department’s Violent Crimes Unit and the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office. Moreno now faces several charges, including two counts of aggravated battery, one count of battery by means of a deadly weapon, and criminal recklessness.

Authorities reported that the shooting occurred on Wednesday afternoon, and Moreno was apprehended shortly afterward. His girlfriend was rushed to a local hospital, where she is currently receiving treatment for serious injuries.

Moreno’s arraignment is scheduled for September 9 at 1 p.m.
