South Bend, IN – A woman who was fatally shot Saturday evening on the city’s southeast side has been identified by authorities as 37-year-old Kristina Ortiz of South Bend.
According to the South Bend Police Department, Ortiz was discovered with an apparent gunshot wound shortly after 8 p.m. Saturday near the 500 block of Wenger Street, close to Southeast Park. Officers responded to reports of a shooting and found Ortiz at the scene, where she was later pronounced dead.
Her autopsy was conducted Monday in Kalamazoo, police said.
The department’s Violent Crimes Unit is continuing to investigate the incident. Authorities confirmed that multiple people were in the area at the time shots were fired and are urging anyone with information — regardless of how minor it may seem — to contact the South Bend Police Department at 574-235-9263.

No suspects have been identified or arrested as of Monday evening.
Police emphasized the investigation remains active and ongoing.
