Coldwater, MI – A high-speed motorcycle chase that began in Branch County early Saturday ended with the driver in custody after fleeing law enforcement across state lines into Indiana.

According to the Branch County Sheriff’s Office, the pursuit began at approximately 1:16 a.m. Saturday when deputies observed a motorcycle traveling at 113 mph southbound on I-69. When deputies attempted to initiate a stop, the driver allegedly failed to comply and fled toward Steuben County, Indiana.

Authorities say the pursuit continued across the state border, where the motorcyclist allegedly exited the interstate, ignored a stop sign, and then reentered I-69 heading south. The chase ended shortly after the driver failed to navigate a curve at the next exit, causing the motorcycle to veer off the road and into a grassy area, where it came to a stop.

The male driver was taken into custody without further incident, while a female passenger was reportedly released from the scene. Law enforcement confirmed the driver was booked into the Steuben County Jail and is currently awaiting extradition back to Michigan.

A follow-up statement from the sheriff’s office confirmed that a report was submitted to the Branch County Prosecutor’s Office. The case was reviewed and a formal charge of Fleeing and Eluding Third Degree was authorized.

Branch County deputies were assisted during the incident by the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office and Indiana State Police.
