Des Moines, Iowa – Nonprofits across western Iowa have until July 22 to apply for low-interest federal disaster loans aimed at helping recover from March’s severe winter storm, the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) announced this week.
According to the SBA, private nonprofit organizations in Crawford, Harrison, Monona, and Woodbury counties may be eligible for up to $2 million in loans to repair or replace damaged property, including real estate, equipment, and business assets. Economic Injury Disaster Loans (EIDLs) are also available to cover daily operating expenses if physical damage wasn’t sustained.
Eligible applicants include food pantries, libraries, homeless shelters, and other community centers that provide essential services. Loans carry interest rates as low as 3.625% with repayment terms of up to 30 years. Borrowers are not required to make payments until 12 months after disbursement.
“This assistance plays a key role in stabilizing local economies and restoring critical services,” said Christal Stidham of the SBA’s Office of Disaster Recovery and Resilience.
To apply, organizations should visit sba.gov/disaster. Applications for physical damage are due July 22, 2025. EIDL applications must be submitted by February 23, 2026.
