South Bend, IN – South Bend firefighters responded to two separate residential fires overnight, displacing a family and several pets while preventing injuries in both incidents.
According to the South Bend Fire Department, crews were dispatched just before 11:15 p.m. Thursday to the 900 block of South 35th Street after receiving reports of a residential fire.
Firefighters arrived to find an active fire in the attic of a two-story home and immediately began an aggressive fire attack. The blaze was brought under control within approximately 20 minutes.
Officials said two adults, two children, three dogs, and two reptiles were displaced by the fire. No injuries to residents or firefighters were reported.
A few hours later, at approximately 2:15 a.m. Friday, firefighters responded to another residential fire in the 1300 block of Sorin Street after neighbors called 911.
According to the fire department, crews found a working fire involving a room in a one-story home that had extended through the windows. Firefighters quickly brought the blaze under control, preventing further damage.
No injuries were reported in the second fire.
The South Bend Fire Department said both incidents remain under investigation as officials work to determine what caused the fires.
Authorities have not indicated whether the two fires are believed to be connected.
