Somerset, PA – Pennsylvania State Police Investigate Fraudulent Rental Scam in Boswell Boro

Somerset, PA – The Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) Troop A – Somerset Station is investigating a fraud case that occurred on March 26, 2025, in Boswell Boro, Somerset County. A fraudulent Facebook account under the name “Jennifer Rentals” allegedly received a payment of $350 from a victim who believed they were securing a background/credit check and paying a security deposit for a rental property that was listed fraudulently.

The suspect behind the scam posed as a legitimate landlord, listing a property for rent and requesting payment for a background check and deposit. The victim, believing the transaction was genuine, was subsequently defrauded.

According to PSP, anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to contact the Somerset station at (814) 445-4104 or to submit anonymous tips through their online portal at www.p3tips.com/tipform.aspx?ID=107. Additionally, tips may qualify for a cash reward for information that leads to an arrest or the resolution of this case.

The public is urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity related to similar fraudulent schemes.
